2016-2017 Year 1 Semester 1

iI’m a Statistics major in NUS Science and here are my reviews for the modules I’ve taken for this semester. Note that these are my opinion and it can differ from people to people.

Modules I took

  1. MA1101R (Linear Algebra I)
  2. MA1102R (Calculus)
  3. ST1131 (Introduction to Statistics)
  4. GET1008 (Public Speaking and Critical Thinking)
  5. FMS1209M (Philosophy of Mathematics)

MA1101R: Linear Algebra

What did I learn?

We learnt 7 chapters in total. Linear Systems and Gaussian Elimination, Matrices, Vector Spaces, Vector Spaces Associated with Matrices, Orthogonality, Diagonalisation and Linear Transformation. It has mostly vectors and matrices. There’s not much geometrical visualisation to help you understand what is being said. There’s more letters you see then numbers because they change the entries in a vector to letters.

Difficulty? (1-very easy, 5-very difficult)

4. At first the lecture were very easy and doing the tutorials were a breeze but then after midterms when subspace was introduced, everything started going downhill, not just for me but for almost everyone because new terms are being thrown at us. If you don’t Continue reading “2016-2017 Year 1 Semester 1”
